SawdustDen is a beginner woodworking site. No jargon, no assumed experience, no tool list that costs more than the project. Just clear guides for people who want to build something real with their own hands, starting from the first cut.
What you’ll find here
- Beginner Projects: simple builds you can finish in a weekend, with a full cut list and measurements in inches so you know exactly what to buy and cut.
- Tools & Safety: what each tool actually does, which ones you need first, which ones can wait, and how to use them without getting hurt.
- Wood & Finishes: pine, oak, plywood and the rest, explained in plain language, plus how to sand and stain without blotches.
- Joinery: screws, glue, dowels and simple joints, with honest notes on what holds and what doesn’t.
- Workshop Setup: small shops, garage corners and tight budgets — how to set up a space that works.
- Plans & Guides: checklists and project plans that keep a build on track.
How we write
Every project is written so a beginner can follow it start to finish: what to buy, what to cut, in what order, and what usually goes wrong. We include the mistakes beginners actually make, because fixing a mistake is part of learning woodworking, not a failure.
A note on safety and skill level
SawdustDen is for hobby and home learning. It is not a trade school, and it is not a substitute for a tool manufacturer’s instructions or for professional advice. Read the safety notes in each guide, wear your protective gear, and if a step feels beyond you, stop and get help from someone experienced. See our Terms & Disclaimer for the full note.
If you spot a mistake in a cut list or a step, let us know through the Contact page and we’ll fix it. That’s how a beginner site stays useful.
